Digital Tools
SimpleLogin – A service that generates throw-away email addresses for you to use when booking appointments, Newsletters, signing up for WiFi access and more. You can create new email addresses on the fly or even use your own throw-away domain. A trustable and open source service from France.
Arq Backup (Paid, $49.99 once or 59.99$ per year with storage) – A backup software to keep your data save in case your laptop breaks down or is stolen. You can set-up back-ups to any Cloud Service such as Google Drive, Amazon, OneDrive or your own network storage. The back-ups are fully encrypted with your own keys; so the cloud storage provider will not have access to any of your data.
Language Learning (Chinese)
Italki.com – Find an online tutor for nearly every language or get help from native speakers with questions. I used Italki practice my Mandarin pronunciation, fully recommended! Use my referral link to get 5$ credit towards your lessons: 5$ Italki Credit
Chinese Zero To Hero – A structured online course based on the official HSK course books. If you like a structured learning experience and are learning to pass the HSK test, this is the right course for you.
Yoyochinese.com – Online course for Chinese that makes learning easier. Learn at your speed and make fast progress. Just spend a few minutes every day watching the videos and review words. The course is well thought through and will not overwhelm. Words will be repeated regularly to build powerful hooks and audio reviews help to study on the go.
Dictionaries – On mobile I used Pleco. It is invaluable for looking up words on the go. On desktop I am using MDBG dictionary.
